북반구지역에서 바라본 아름다운 지구행성모습

최근까지 "블루마블"로 불리우며 지구행성 전체 컬러 이미는 몇차례 공개되었지만,

이번에는 지구 북반구쪽 북극 지역을 중심으로 한  아름다운 지구행성의 모습을

미항공우주국이 (NASA) 처음으로 공개한 모습입니다.

눈과 얼음층으로 덮여진 북극중심부의 모습이 보이며,

왼편으로 유럽지역과 그아랫쪽을 아프리카 북부지역과 중동의 사우디 아라비아 반도가 보인다.

오른쪽 하단으로 부터 인도와  아시아 대륙이보이고  오른편으로 러시아 캄차카반도 그 아랫쪽으로

 극동아시아 지역의 구름에 덮힌 한반도와 일본열도 모습도 보인다.

There have been many images of the full disc of Earth from space?a view often referred to as “the Blue Marble”?but few have looked quite like this. Using natural-color images from the Visible/Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the recently launched Suomi-NPP satellite, a NASA scientist has compiled a new view showing the Arctic and high latitudes.

Ocean scientist Norman Kuring of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center pieced together this composite image of Europe, Asia, North Africa, and the entire Arctic. It was compiled from 15 satellite passes made by Suomi-NPP on May 26, 2012. The spacecraft circles the Earth from pole to pole at an altitude of 824 kilometers (512 miles), so it takes multiple passes to gather enough data to show an entire hemisphere without gaps in the view.

2012년 5월26일경 Suomi-NPP 15 위성이 지구상공을 통과하며 수집한

유럽, 아시아, 북아프리카, 그리고 전체 북극의 이미지들을 조합 합성하여 

북극 고위도 지역을 중심으로 한  지구행성의 아름다운 이미지를 재현한 모습이다.

우주선에서 824km (512 마일)의 고도에서 지구를 돌며

전체 북반구 모습을 보여주기 충분한 데이터를 수집하기 위해 여러차례 북반구 상공을 통과하며

여백없이 완벽한 지구행성의 북반구 이미지를 완성한 모습이다.

This classic photograph of the Earth was taken on December 7, 1972. The original caption is reprinted below:

View of the Earth as seen by the Apollo 17 crew traveling toward the moon. This translunar coast photograph extends from the Mediterranean Sea area to the Antarctica south polar ice cap. This is the first time the Apollo trajectory made it possible to photograph the south polar ice cap. Note the heavy cloud cover in the Southern Hemisphere. Almost the entire coastline of Africa is clearly visible. The Arabian Peninsula can be seen at the northeastern edge of Africa. The large island off the coast of Africa is the Malagasy Republic. The Asian mainland is on the horizon toward the northeast.
