To me it's because kpop presents a form of entertainment that is unavailable to other areas.  It's not just the the music, but the entertainment industry as a whole.  Of course you can find references to other countries within kpop just like other cultures, but the way it's presented is unique.

 

KPOP이 인기있는 이유는, 다른 국가의 엔터테인먼트 산업이 제공해줄 수 없는 독특한 재미를 제공하기 때문이다. 한국 연예산업의 일부인 KPOP 음악 뿐만이 아니라 모든 분야를 통틀어 볼거리를 제공하는 방식이 상당히 독특하다.

I think it's partly due to the training they put in and partly because kpop artists aren't afraid to be cute. Most of the popular arists in America, for instance, go for sexy, powerful, fierce, and kpop can do that, too, but who does cute anymore? Bieber, I guess. And his popularity is irritatingly explosive. Hannah Montana did cute, and again her popularity exploded. But, now that she's doing sexy and altogether dropping the cute, she seems to be losing fans.

After being so serious, for so long, with things like terrorism, the economy, etc, maybe people need a cute and innocent release valve.

케이팝의 인기 원인은 가수들이 기획사에서 트레이닝을 잘 받은 탓도 있지만 가수들 자체의 귀여운 매력이 인기 원인의 나머지 반을 차지한다고 본다.

 

지금 미국에서 인기있는 가수들은 대부분 섹시하거나, 강렬하거나, 터프한 이미지로 나타나지만 그들은 이제 더이상 '귀여운' 컨셉은 보여주지 않으려 하지. 이제 남은 건 저스틴 비버 뿐이다. 귀여운 이미지의 '저스틴 비버'의 인기는 폭발적인 수준이다. '한나 몬타나' 역시 예전 귀여운 모습일 때는 인기가 하늘로 치솟았지만 갑자기 그 귀여움을 버리고 섹시한 컨셉을 선택한 순간부터 그녀의 팬이 많이 줄어든 듯한 느낌이 든다...

 

뭐 글을 너무 진지하게 써서 좀 그렇지만, 지금까지 우리 사회에 나타났던 테러와 경제문제 같은 것들에 너무 시달리다 보니.... 사람들이 귀여운 것을 찾고, 순수한 것을 원하기 때문인지도 모른다.

I like the Kmusic because it's something fresh and different and the same time remember the 1990´s music. Good pop.

i think kpop offers something that existed back in the 1990s and early 2000s.  remember backstreet boys, nsync, o-town, spice girls, s club 7, etc???... there were a ton of groups back then who were huge worldwide and now it's mostly solo artists or collaborations.  i think kpop offers that music craze today, which i think is why foreigners are captivated with kpop

 

KPOP은 1990년대와 2000년대 초에 존재했던 미국 가수와 그룹들을 떠올리게 한다. 백스트리트 보이즈, 엔싱크, o-town, 스파이스 걸스, s club 7 같은. 그래서 이들 아이돌들을 보고 있으면 마치 그 시대로 돌아간 것 같은 느낌이 든다. 그 당시엔 미국에도 상당히 다양하고 많은 그룹들이 존재했었는데... 그룹들도 세계적으로 인기도 많았었고.... 그런데 이젠, 미국 음악시장에는 솔로 가수들이 대부분이고 어쩌다 그룹이 나와도 그건 솔로가수들끼리의 단기 그룹 활동일 뿐이다. KPOP은 오늘날의 사람들이 몹시 열망하는 옛날의 그 음악을 제공하고 있다. 그래서 사람들의 KPOP에 매료되는 것이라고 생각한다.

나도 그렇게 생각해. 한국을 제외한 많은 국가에서 보이 그룹을 찾아보기 힘들어지고있다는 것도 이유일 거야. 그래서 소녀들이 열광할 만한 새로운 무엇을 찾는다는 거지.

I adored the boy bands of the 90s in the US. I also loved some of the girl bands that came out of it as well, but they are not taken seriously in the US anymore. When I discovered KPOP it quickly became something I immediately loved.
 
it's safe to say the appeal of KPOP lies in that they are filling in a void in music in many countries. And what is sad is that no one wants to fill it, so the fans go elsewhere.

 

미국의 90년대에 활동했던 보이그룹과 걸그룹을 좋아했었다. 그 당시의 걸그룹도 좋아했어. 하지만 이제 미국에는 더이상 그룹가수들이 대중에게 진지하게 받아들여지지 않아. 그래서 KPOP을 발견했을 땐, 그 속에 내가 원하던 게 있기에 난 곧바로 사랑에 빠졌다.

 

그룹가수의 음악을 원하는 세계인들의 바램을 그 어떤 국가에서도 채워주지 못하는 가운데, KPOP의 등장은 유일하게 그 욕구를 채워주고 있다고 할 수 있다. 유감스러운 점은 케이팝 이외에 그 바램을 대신해줄 곳이 없다는 거다. 그래서 팬들이 타국으로 눈길을 돌린것이 지금의 kpop인기 요인이라 본다.

We used to have this kind of group too in France. 2be3 would be an example. Problem, at least according to me, is that after a while they looked a bit tacky and/or cheesy and/or corny so pfuiiiiiiiiit bye bye boysbands and girlsbands.

And then... oooooh. Korea. Helloooooooooooo groups! Tons of them. Not just one or two in the spotlight. So many to choose from it's not even funny. Looks AND voices AND dances. Bam, success cocktail right there.

Besides, Justin Bieber ain't enough for the whole world :P

 

우리 프랑스에도 그룹 가수들이 존재하던 시절이 있었단다. 예를들면 2be3 같은 그룹들. 근데 문제는 그룹들이 점점 찐득하고 저속해졌을 뿐만 아니라 느끼해지고 진부해졌단 말야. 그래서 우리나라 그룹들에게 작별인사를 해버렸지.

 

그 후.... 우오오오!  한국. 이야아아아아! 그룹! 거긴 그룹이 엄청 많은거야. 인기그룹이 한 둘이 아냐. 선택권도 다양하다. 보컬도 춤도 장난없는 수준이야. 이 세상을 모두 품기엔 저스틴 비버 하나만으론 부족해.

For me, K-pop is a happy medium. On one end, you have the clean, lighthearted American pop music that is sung by Disney stars: fun and addictive, but the dancing is so-so and it's strictly for the 8-14 set. You can't openly enjoy these songs unless you have a kid who you say
'forced' you to listen to it. On the other end is the 'adult' pop: it's all about sex, money and wearing as little as possible. K-pop is a bit of both, cute without being too childish (some groups) and sexy without it being all about sex. That and all the bright colors, it's hypnotizing. Can't get away from it if you tried.

      In regards to Europe,don't know much about French tastes in music, but in England music tends to focus more on dance, rock, garage and dubstep. Unless Korean artist are willing to incorporate that style into their music, they may have a hard time breaking into that market (just
my opinion, not 100% sure)

 

내게있어 KPOP은 디즈니와 팝을 만족스럽게 이어주는 매개물이야. 미국 팝음악에도 디즈니사와 같은 깨끗하고 건전한 가사에 업비트의 밝은 노래들이 많이 나오고 있지만 디즈니사의 음악에는 춤이 그저 그렇고 매력적이지 않아. 게다가 호응할만한 연령대도 8세~14세 어린아이들에게 맞춰져 있기 때문에 우리 성인들은 아이들 입장에 서지 않으면 그런 노래들을 열린 마음으로 즐기기란 쉽지 않다. 억지로 듣는다는 거지.
그렇다고 성인들까지 끌어안는 미국 팝음악은 성행위나 돈과 같은 주제가 넘쳐나고 옷도 거의 벗고 나온다.

 

이런 점에서 KPOP은 미국 디즈니의 순수성, 귀여운 모습과 대중적 팝이 가진 섹시함을 동시에 갖고있으면서도 너무 유치하지 않게, 가사에 성행위를 포함하지 않아도 야하지 않은 노래를 발표한다는 점이 마음에 들어. 밝은 색상과 분위기가 쉽게 빠져나올 수 없는 최면에라도 걸린듯 빠지게해.

If music is good, people will like it. In the case of Kpop there are a lot of girls who are interested in the Korean guys because they are different and interesting.

 

일단 음악이 좋으면 사람들의 마음을 움직인다.  KPOP의 경우, 이게 흥하는 이유는 한국 남자들에게 관심을 보이는 여자들이 많아졌기 때문도 있다. 색다르고 흥미롭게 느껴지는 거다.

People being taken in as trainees by big companies in order to become a star.

What happens in the western is usually this : You form a band, you go around clubs playing your music, you meet a producer and if you're lucky, in a few years you might be out there for some time.

In this Kpop world, trainees are taught how to be before becoming stars. That is something us, westerns, should look up to in my opinion.
they teached them some value of becoming a true star.

 

KPOP 가수들은 대형 기획사들에 의해 선택되어 스타가 되기 위한 연습생 생활을 한다. 그러나 서구 세계에서 가수가 된다는 것은, 일단 자기들이 먼저 그룹을 만든다 -> 클럽같은 곳에서 자신들의 음악을 만들어 공연하거나 틀어놓는다 -> 그렇게 한 지 몇 년 안에 운이 좋으면 기획사를 잡을 수 있는.. 그런 식이다. 

KPOP세계에서처럼 스타가 되기 전 연습생들을 트레이닝해주는, 이런 시스템을 우리 서구세계 사람들이 진지하게 고려해보아야 하지 않겠는가 하는 생각이다.
가수들에게 스타의 가치가 무엇인지 가르치는 것이다.

i listened to jpop a lot in my youth so i was kind of past the language barrier when i started listening to kpop :P 

i think kpop is becoming a lot more westernized (introducing korean groups in america, getting american producers and songwriters, etc.) so i guess it does have some appeal in western countries.

 

어린시절 나는 J-POP을 많이 들으며 자랐다. 그래서 KPOP을 듣기 시작했을 때 즈음에는 이미 외국어로 된 노래의 장벽따위는 진작에 무너뜨린 상태였던 샘이다. 최근 KPOP은 한국 그룹들을 미국에 선보이거나 미국 프로듀서와 접촉, 미국 작곡가의 곡을 쓰는것을 통해 상당히 서구화되어서 이런 것들이 서양인들에게 구미를 당기고 있다고 생각한다.

The main thing for me is that there is something so different about their image compared to western singers.  For one thing, their costumes are so much better thought out, the majority of the time.  The fact that they tend to have better looks helps as well.  I guess it is true that the music is westernized but even so it seems more appropriate and more appealing.  Korean dance choreography also seems to me to better to dance to than western songs.  I don't know, the new offerings in western songs just put me off listening to them while Korean songs just seem to attract me even more :D

 

요점은, 케이팝 가수들의 이미지가 서양세계의 가수들과 비교할 때 남다른 점이 나타난다는 거다. 입고나오는 의상도 케이팝쪽이 훨씬 맵시가 있는 경우가 많고. 외모에 치중하는 경향이 있는데 그 점이 성장을 도왔다본다. KPOP은 서구화된 음악이지만 그렇다 하더라도 서구 음악보다 훨씬 듣기좋고 매력있다. KPOP의 안무는 서양의 팝가수들이 추는 춤 보다 훨씬 근사해. 왠지 모르게 요즘엔 팝을 듣다가도 꺼버리게되고 한국 노래에 더 많이 귀를 기울이게 돼.

I don't know about the "pop in Japan sucks" part, but you're spot on with everything else. We like a lot of the K-pop out there, because it sounds like Western music but with a Korean flare.

 

남들이 얘기하는 'JPOP은 형편없다'는 얘기에 대해선 뭐라 말하고싶진 않아, 하지만 우리가 KPOP을 좋아하는 이유는 케이팝이 서양 대중음악과 비슷하기 때문이야. 그러면서도 한국적인 맛이 있지.

Korean music is popular because its good. Is it original and different? No, everything is taken from the Americans. The reason foreginers love Kpop so much is because it sounds like American music. That's why Jpop isn't as big as Hallyu becuase they are more j-rock oriented. Pop in Japan sucks, but in Korea it sounds great cause its at least made to be similar to western music. From own experience, we love kpop because it sounds good and we relate better with the artists, who are normal people like us working hard to become famous. Thats it. All I can say is, its come to the point where I don't even listen to western music anymroe X'D

 

KPOP이 질좋은 음악이기 때문에 인기있는거야. KPOP에 오리지널리티가 있을까 없을까? 없어. KPOP의 모든것이 미국으로부터 왔어. 해외팬들이 KPOP을 사랑하는 이유는 미국 팝같이 들리기 때문이야. JPOP이 한류처럼 큰 영향력을 내지 못하는 이유는 JPOP이 원래 J-락음악을 지향하고 있기 때문이고 인기있다는 jpop은 도무지 들을만 하지가 않아. 반면 KPOP은 서양음악에 가깝게 만들었고 열심히 노력하며 일하는 가수들의 모습에서 스타가 아닌 평범한 모습을 보고 그들에게 감정이입하기 쉽지. 그게 인기 요인이야. 그런 것들이 우리로하여금 서양 음악을 끊어버리도록 했어.

Essentially, most celebrities in western societies are idolized to the point where we forget they're human. They're like GODS to most people, so in effect, they are unapproachable. However, with Kpop, they give more of a... next door feel, so if we do get the chance to meet them, even if we're starstruck, we never forget they're human because they're constantly showing how human they are. I love kpop because I feel like I can relate to them in some way.

 

서양 사회에서 연예계 유명인사들은 대부분 우상화 되어있기 때문에 우리는 그들도 우리와 같은 인간이라고 생각하기 보다는 마치 신처럼 동떨어진 존재로, 가까이 가는 것조차 불가능한 그런 존재로 생각하게 된다. 그런 반면, KPOP 스타들은 마치 우리 이웃에 존재하여 '누구에게나 호감을 사는 젊은이'라는 느낌이랄까? 무슨 의미냐 하면 KPOP 스타들은 인간적인면을 거리낌없이 드러내고 있으며 기회가 오기만 하면 우리도 그들을 만날 수 있을 것 같다는 소리야.
내가 KPOP을 사랑하는 이유는 그들로부터 나와 비슷한 점을 발견할 수 있다는 점 때문이다.

The most appealing thing about Kpop for me is the artists' good looks. The music is catchy and addictive but I guess Kpop won't be this successful if the artists don't have some "face". I know Kpop is so popular but I guess it's not popular enough to be able to dominate foreign pop music. If Kpop want to be more popular internationally and being acknowledged for its quality, I think most of its songs have to stop using Engrish. No matter how good a song is, when the lyrics are nonsense, it will make such a huge turn off.

 

내게있어 KPOP에 가장 매력을 느끼는 부분은 바로 가수들의 잘 생기고 예쁜 외모다. 음악이 귀에 꽂히고 중독성이 있기 때문도 있지만 만일 KPOP 가수들이 "외모"를 갖추지 않았다면 이렇게 성공하기란 불가능했을 것이다. KPOP이 인기있다는 건 인정하지만 팝음악을 물리치기에는 아직 역부족이야. 만일 KPOP이 자신들의 높은 퀄리티를 인정받고 국제적인 인기를 더 얻고 싶다면, 노래에 영어 가사부터 빼라. 노래가 아무리 좋아도 영어 가사가 말이 안 되는데 듣다가 꺼버리게 만드는 곡 밖에 더 되는가.

I think that fact that they have gone global has really helped. Also with fans bringing more people into it.
I love the dance, music. Most are really, really talented.
I hope it keeps expanding. I want more chances to see them here in my own country.

 

케이팝 가수들이 세계적으로 뻗어간 것이 인기 상승에 도움을 주었다고 본다. 팬이되면 그 팬들이 또 다른 사람들을 같은 세계로 이끌기 마련이지.

그들의 춤과 음악이 좋아. 대부분 실력좋은 가수들이 많아. 이들이 계속 영역을 넓혀주었으면 좋겠어. 그래서 우리나라에서도 그들의 모습을 볼 기회가 왔으면.

KPOP 중에서 미국보다 유럽에서 먼저 데뷔를 하는 그룹이 나온다면 정말 머리를 잘 굴렸다는 거다.. 유럽에는 편견없이 깨인자들이 훨씬 많거든.

I was so curious why I love Kpop nowadays..  but I so love their style (fashion, variety shows, music, looks, Korean drama) they all have the originality and in their style they can connect to the viewers.

 

내가 kPOP을 왜 좋아하는 걸까 의문이 들었지만..., 그들의 스타일이 참 마음에 드네. 패션, 버라이어티 쇼, 음악, 외모, 드라마까지. 스타일에 독창성이 있고 시청자들을 몰두시킨다.

For me, i was captivated by their performance...  dance, outfits,, they are just so focused on packaging.

 

 

케이팝에 사로잡힌 건 가수들의 퍼포먼스에 매료되었기 때문이야. 춤, 의상,,, 그들은 이 모든것을 한 셋트로 보여주려는데 몰두하고 있어.

as a foreigner kpop lover, I wasn't even into pop.. because I felt that american pop ( what is most popular right now unfortunately) lacks passion.. it's all just the same and they are not hard working. What I love about kpop is their hard work.. their talent overwhelms me. plus they have very catchy songs.. that I feel are made with a lot of hard work.. when I hear american pop I don't feel the passion and the hard work in their voices. plus kpop has awesome choreography that draws your attention.. hot people that I never tought it was possible to be that good looking and great fashion.. but above all they have pashion and that makes me like kpop.. and i was never ever a pop person x) and I'm 21 by the way.. note a little kid.. so I think i appreciate kpop in a whole different way then young teenagers.. but i like it a lot. and another korean thing that show their hard work and professionalism is korean dramas :)

 

KPOP을 사랑하는 외국인으로서 말해보자면, 나는 현재 전세계를 지배하고있는 POP에도 빠져본 적이 없는 사람이야. POP에는 열정이 결여되어 있고 팝가수들에게선 열정을 가지고 열심히 임한다는 느낌을 받을수가 없었다.

 

내가 KPOP을 좋아하는 이유, 케이팝 가수들의 재능과 노력하는 모습이 나를 압도했다. 여기에 매우 귀에 꽂히는 좋은 노래까지 들고 나온다... 뿐만 아니라 우리의 시선을 사로잡을만한 환상적인 안무까지 보여줘.....  너무나 섹시한 사람들이... 이 세상에 존재하는 것이 신비로울 정도로 잘 생긴 외모의 사람들이 멋진 의상을 입고 나온다. 

이런 모든 이유 중에서도 가장 주된 인기 요인은 KPOP가수들이 가진 열정이 나로 하여금 KPOP을 사랑하게 만드는 것이다.
지금껏 POP을 듣지 않았던 나... 내 나이 스물 하나... 어른다운 성숙함으로 KPOP을 음미하고 있다.
KPOP에서 느낄 수 있었던 직업 의식은 한국 드라마에서도 똑같이 느낄 수 있어서 좋다.

I think it's just great to see artists in general actually seem excited to perform live and put in the effort and work instead of becoming lazy like some artists have become, they actually perform and put on a show for fans. They make exciting music and the artists in KPOP are more interesting than others.

 

퍼포먼스를 보면 가수들 본인들도 라이브 공연을 하면서 상당히 즐기고 있다는 느낌이 들었고, 공연을 잘 하려고 최선을 다하는 것이 눈에 보이는데 이 점 대단히 기뻤다. 요즈음에는 인기 좀 있다는 아티스트들이 게을러터져서 자신들의 팬들 앞에서 공연을 할 떄도 최선을 다 한다는 느낌을 전혀 받을 수 없는 이들이 많다. 그런데 KPOP 그룹들은 노력하면서도 음악도 흥미로운 곡을 내놓는, 그래서 다른이들보다 더 흥미롭게 느껴지는 것이다.

I like the innocence of the artist. Most of them blush men and woman when you start talking about idol types and such. I think thats kinda cute.

 

케이팝 아티스트들의 순수함이 마음에 든다. 방송에서 좋아하는 이성의 타입을 물어볼 때마다 대부분의 남그룹 여그룹 할것없이 얼굴을 붉히고 쑥쓰러워 하더군. 그 모습이 뭔가 귀여웠어.

The thing is that people love cuteness. Some people are just tired of slutty pop-stars like Gaga, cyrus, x-stina and the likes... So, when they experience k-pop, who the heck would want to listen to husky-voice gaga anymore? Go cuteness!

 

사람들은 귀여움이 마음에 들었던 것이다. 단정치 못한 천박함에 싫증난 사람들도 많아 예를들면 Gaga, cyrus, x-stina와 같은 가수들... 그래서 사람들이 일단 KPOP을 경험하고 나면 gaga의 허스키한 목소리는 더 이상 듣고싶지 않게 되지. 귀여움을 밀고가야해!

I kind of agree with that. I mean, Gaga is just...Gaga, But yeah, you don't really see very many mainstream singers (the female ones, anyway) that don't look like a slut a majority of the time. I know peoples opinions on looks vary, but for me, there's a difference between looking sexy and looking slutty. You can have all your clothes on and shows some skin here and there and still be sexy without letting everything hang out or only wear something that's the equivalent of a bra and a pair of underwear T.T

The same goes for songs. You can still have a great song without throwing a curse word in every other line or talking about sex every other line. I know not every song is like that, but a majority of mainstream songs now a days are.

 

나도 네 의견에 동의하는 점이 많네..  물론 Gaga는 Gaga야. 하지만 요샌 정말 음악시장 주류에 있는 여성 가수들 중에서 매춘부같은 컨셉이 아닌 경우를 거의 찾아볼 수가 없다구. 뭐 사람들의 의견이야 각자 다르겠지만 내가 볼 땐, 섹시해 보인다는 것과 창녀같이 보인다는 것은 서로 다르다고 생각해. 반드시 브레지어나 다름없는 속옷같은 쪼가리만 걸치고 무대를 활보하는 것 보다, 옷을 전부 갖춰 입되, 신체의 일부만 살짝 노출해준다든지 이런 것 만으로도 얼마든지 섹시해질 수 있다고 봐.T.T

 

노래도 마찬가지. 누군가를 저주하는 단어나 성행위에 대해 가사로 떠들지 않아도 충분히 훌륭한 노래를 할 수 있다는 생각이야 난. 물론 미국의 모든 음악이 그렇지는 않다는 걸 나도 알지만, 요즘 인기곡들이 너무 그런류라서.

it's not the language that makes kpop good.. music has to be good, has to be felt without knowing the songs's language and that is what quite a lot kpop songs transmit...and other countries's songs don't... not to mention due to their long trainee times even debutantes are usually very professional

 

KPOP을 훌륭하게 만드는 것은 언어가 아니야.. 음악이 일단 훌륭해야해. 좋은 음악은 그 노래가 품은 언어를 이해하지 못한 상태에서도 아 좋구나 라는걸 느껴야만 한다. KPOP은 그런 전달력이 상당한 반면, 다른 나라의 노래들을 그렇지 않지. 더구나 케이팝 가수들은 연습생기간이 길었으므로 데뷔순간부터 이미 프로다운 면을 보여준다는 점도 빼놓을 수 없구나.

i think your comment has a more legit reason put together. that's the exact reason i got into kpop. i could feel the music without even knowing any words in the korean language.

in the beginning the whole looks thing really didn't matter because i'd never seen any of the artists. my friend just made mixed CD's for me to listen to and i'd tell her which songs i liked the best.

it's basically because peopel dont understand Korean, and think Korean songs sound cool.
if it gets translated to your own language, the lyrics would be cheesy. but no, it's in Korean, so it does not sound cheesy at all.

 

same thing with Koreans. they go gaga over any Korean who speaks english.

Kpop is not that popular here in my country(as of now). Songs from Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Black Eyed Peas etc, etc are more popular.

Kpop? We obviously can't understand their lyrics so probably only few(including me) listens to it. To be honest, I know artists who sing better than the KPop idols, but the thing that really makes me follow Kpop is the way they perform. They dance and sing at the same time, I think it's amazing.

Simply put...more people...more opportunities to see talent...on one stage. I'm tired of seeing solo acts, especially when many here are solo because they don't know how to play well with others. I like seeing teamwork. I like seeing the choreography that can be pulled off with a group where all members doing it are intended to be in the spotlight and not in the back as just support to one person the camera never moves away from.

 

인기있는 이유는 간단히 말해서.. 케이팝세계에서는 재능있는 가수들을 그룹으로 묶어 한 무대에서 한꺼번에 볼 수 있다는 점이다. 난 이제 솔로 가수들이 혼자 나와서 단독으로 공연하는 걸 보는 것에 싫증이 났다. 우리나라에는 나 혼자라는 개념이 아닌 그룹으로 뭉쳐서 타인과 협동을 하여 공연할 줄 모르는 가수들이 많은 것 같다. 난 KPOP 아이돌이 보여주는 팀워크가 마음에 든다. 솔로 가수들의 무대에서는 스포트라이트가 주인공 한 명에게만 쏟아지고 카메라 앵글은 도대체가 움직일 줄을 모르지. 하지만 그룹을 이루어야만 멋지게 완성되는 KPOP 아티스트들의 춤동작은 협동을 보여준다.

I love K-pop because it really is a breathe of fresh air. the artists have the whole package: They are pretty, cute, sexy, handsome, can sing, can dance, are very humble and respectful,  they perform and create wonderful, addicting music and they have immense stage presence! They are also very down-to-earth and communicate a lot with us fans.

 

I also think it's the innocence of it. In a world where artists' raps and songs contain only swearing words and sex and artists scream random baby-words in bra and underpants on stage, I could understand why someone would 'convert' to K-pop.

KPOP을 듣는다는 것은 신선한 공기를 호흡하는 것과 같다. KPOP가수들은 예쁨, 귀여움, 섹시함, 핸섬함, 가창력, 댄스 스킬을 갖춘데다 매우 겸손하고 타인을 배려할 줄 아는 것 까지 모두 갖춰서 마치 종합선물셋트 같다. 멋지고 빠져들게 하는 중독적인 노래로 무대에 섰을때 존재감은 대단하다. 팬들과 소통할 줄 아는 그들은 대단히 현실적이고 솔직하다.

 

그리고 KPOP의 순수함이 인기에 한몫을 차지한다고 본다. 어떤 나라의 음악에서는 랩과 노래속에 성행위를 요구하는 가사로 가득차 있는가 하면, 뜬금없이 베이비 베이비~를 반복하여 외쳐대는 노래를 부른다거나, 무대 위에서 브레지어와 팬티만 입고 공연을 한다든지 그런 것들이 KPOP에는 찾아볼 수 없는 광경이라는 얘기다. 이런 점에서 나는 KPOP을 따라하며 커버하는 마니아들을 이해할 수 있다.

Kpop is really different from European music. It has everything, the voices, looks, dance skills, acting skills. They seem really close because of variety shows. They are like normal people, not just rich people who only care about money.

I think if they would sell albums in big stores in Europe, I'm sure people will buy! It's easier than internet I think.
I hope the Kpop won't only think it's France, but EUROPE! That would be very nice :D

 

유럽의 음악과는 확연히 다른 KPOP....  보컬과 외모, 춤 실력, 연기 실력까지 모든 걸 갖추고 있어. KPOP가수들이 출연한 버라이어티 쇼를 보고있으면 그들의 모습이 참 친근하게 다가와....  가까이 다가갈 수 없는 부유층이 아닌 그냥 평범한 사람들 같아.

케이팝은 여기 유럽의 레코드 가게에 내놓으면 잘 팔릴거라고 봐. 살 사람 많을걸! 인터넷을 통해서 보다 훨씬 손에넣기 쉬우니까. KPOP이 프랑스만, 유럽 공연만 고려하지 말았으면..

That's something I forgot to add, K-pop artists seem way more accessible that UK or US artists. They have music programs, variety shows, we get to see their personality more, watch live performances regulary and even come here to read about them. Artists over here, there's always a wall between them and the fans, no real music programs, and edited interviews.

 

KPOP아티스트들은 영국이나 미국 아티스트들보다 훨씬 접근하게 쉽다는 느낌을 준다. 한국에는 가수들을 볼 수 있는 뮤직 프로그램과 버라이어티 쇼가 많아서 그들의 개성을 느낄 수가 있고, 라이브 퍼포먼스를 정기적으로 볼 수도 있고 이렇게 팬싸이트에서도 번역된 기사를 읽을수가 있으니. 반면 우리나라의 아티스트들은 팬들 사이에  만나기란 쉽지 않다. 현장감 느껴지는 음악 프로그램도, 인터뷰 방송도 없어.

But it's so fustrating that Korea always mention France when they think of Europe, as Rain showed everyone : GERMANY is a great stage as well ! But Spain, UK and also the Easten European countries should get a chance ;) !

the whole "boyband" and "girlband" thing has kind of died out in america, though i'm not quite sure about europe, so i think that may have something to do with the HUGE interest in kpop from foreign places. as a non-asian k-pop lover, i know that without the internet, i would have NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED listening to korean music because it wasn't readily available to me. i'm so glad i did though!! i can't even imagine my life without my idols. it's made such a huge impact on me.

 

유럽의 사정은 어떤지 모르겠으나 미국에는 이미 '보이그룹'과 '걸그룹'이라는 것이 거의 전멸한 것이나 다름없어졌다. 그래서 이러한 현실과 연관지어 생각해 볼 때, 많은 이들이 KPOP에 매료되는 이유가 바로 여기에 있는 것이 아닐까 해.

서양인 KPOP팬으로서 한 마디 하자면, 인터넷이 없었다면 나는 결코 KPOP 음악을 들어보려는 시도조차 하지않았을 것은 확실하다. 인터넷이 아니었다면 그에 접근할 어떤 계기도 없었을 것. 케이팝을 알게되어 기쁘게 생각한다. 내 인생에 아이돌이 없었다면 어땠을까 상상조차 할 수 없어. 나에게 큰 영향을 미치는 존재다.

Kpop literally invades the internet, and considering the amount of people using the internet, it's only a matter of time before people get to recognize Kpop like they are today. Just make sure people won't get sick of it, just like when u have showered for too long you can either catch cold or vomit..

 

말하자면 이런거다. 우리가 샤워기 앞에서 물을 틀면 온 몸이 물에 젖을 수 밖에 없는 것처럼, KPOP과 팬들의 관계도 같아. 케이팝은 인터넷으로 침투했고, 인터넷 유저들은 마치 샤워기 앞에 서 있는 사람들처럼 케이팝을 알아갈 수밖에. 전 세계의 인터넷 사용자들의 숫자를 고려해 볼 때  KPOP에 대해 깨우치게 될 날이 머지 않았어. 다만 KPOP 기획사들은 팬들이 싫증내지 않도록 해야할 거야. 샤워를 너무 오래 하면 그만 감기에 걸려버리거나 기침을 할 테니까.

K-Pop artists are unique,talented and gorgeous...I've been listening to K-Pop for about 6 months (feels like it's been more time),and many people can't understand how I can listen Korean songs and watch Korean variety shows,but more and more of my friends are getting 'the virus of K-Pop'....but still,much more people listen what most of people arond them are listening and it's really annoying me that they don't really have a opinion and listen what they like,but they're listening what's new and most popular.I'm not saying that I'm not listening singers like Lady GaGa and Rihanna,but I have much more opened sights than most of people around me.Actually,right now,I really don't know why did I write all this,but I know that there are people that think the way I do.

KPOP을 들은지 6개월째인데 친구들이 한국 노래를 듣고 예능 프로그램을 보는 나를 이해를 못했었어. 그러더니 결국은 걔들도 어쩔 수 없이 KPOP 바이러스에 감염되고 말았어. 그렇지만 아직도 많은 사람들이 대중음악 외 다른것에 관심을 돌리질 않는다. 그냥 팝신곡나오면 듣고 인기 좀 있다는 노래만 찾아서 들을 뿐이야. 그렇다고 내가 GaGa와 Rihanna의 팝송을 전혀 듣지 않는 것도 아니지만 단지 내가 보통 사람들보다 더 열린 마음으로 깨어있는 사람이라고 할까 내가.  참 쓰고나서 보니 이 글 왜 쓴건지 나도 모르겠네. 아무튼 세상에는 나같은 사람도 있는 거야.

음... 뭐 그렇지. 특정 소수만 알고있는 걸 공유한다는 기분 이해해. 자신만의 비밀을 간직하고프다는. 하지만 언젠가 kpop이 인기를 얻게되서 모두가 즐기는 KPOP이 되어버린다면 그건 이제 더이상 우리만의 비밀스러운 보물이 아닌게 될 테니까. KPOP만의 매력이 변질될까봐 그게 두렵기도 하구나.

I know that this sounds really selfish, but I preferred it when there were less K-Pop fans and I hope there won't be too many T.T A few years ago I'd have my own little group of K-Pop fans to spaz with, but now just mention artists name everyone like "OMG, I KNOW THEM! I LOVE THEM!". It's not the same anymore T,T You get what I'm trying to say right D:

 

이런 얘기 한심하게 들릴지 모르겠지만, 난 KPOP팬들이 별로 없었을 때가 더 좋았던 것 같아. 앞으로도 팬의 수가 늘어나지 않았으면 좋겠다 T.T 몇년 전까지만 해도 소수의 KPOP 팬들만 모여수 우리끼리 케이팝에 대해 수다도 떨고 단란했었는데, 이젠 케이팝 가수들의 이름만 나와도 모두가 "오마이갓, 나도 알아 그들을 알고있어!"라고 난리쳐.. 그럼 이제 더이상 예전같지 않다는게 참. T,T  다들 내 뜻을 이해할거라 믿어.

What do you think of kpop spreading over the world? hate it because k-pop is really special to me...i live in aus and i don't know what i'll do if my friends listened and talked about it you know?  it'll be so bad.. it just won't be the same and when they get really popular in western countries they'll be outside of asia alot and then there'll be less variety shows with them and we'll see less of them on tv in korea and instead they'll be on american tv i really don't want that. i know they want to make it to us and i want them to be happy but when theyve spread outside asia, all over the world and everyone knows them..ah i don't know i just don't want it to happen

 

KPOP이 전 세계로 펴져간다면 난 너무 싫을 것 같아. KPOP은 나에게 굉장히 소중한 거야... 난 호주에 사는데 만일 내 친구들이 모두 케이팝을 듣고 케이팝에 관해 얘기하고 그런다면? 난 너무 슬플 것 같아... KPOP 가수들이 서양 국가에서 진짜 장난 아니게 인기가 있어진다면 그들은 아시아에서 나와버릴 거고 그렇게 되면 케이팝 가수들이 출연하는 한국 방송 버라이어티 쇼 등을 잘 볼수 없게될 것 같아. 미국 TV에서만 볼 수 있게되겠지.. 물론 그들이 우리에게 다가서려는 건 알겠는데, 케이팝이 아시아 밖까지 영향 미치는건 마음에 안 들어. 그런 일이 안 일어났으면 해.

This makes me kinda sad. it can also help asians a lot too. A lot of people have such stupid stereotypes about asians being nerds, gay, quiet, submissive etc. Maybe with these groups can help change the way people view asians in general. It changed my views, I know I shouldn't have thought that to begin with but all you see in american media is jackie chan and jet li and asian women are practically invisible.

So maybe this can help bring some positive role models to asians living in america and positive views on asians in general.

 

그런 말을 하다니 슬퍼지네.. KPOP이 아시아 밖에서 인기가 많아질 수록 동양인들에겐 이익이야. 아직도 많은 사람들이 동양인들은 바보이고 게이이며 입 꾹닫고 조용하기만 한, 순종적인 모습이 아시안의 전형이라고 생각하는 정신나간 인간들이 참 많아. 그런데, KPOP그룹들이 동양인들을 바라보던 주류의 시각들, 이미지 개선에 도움을 줄 수가 있단 말이야. 지금 미국 방송에 나오는 동양인의 모습이란 성룡과 이연걸이 두드러지지 동양인 여성들은 거의 볼 수 없어. 그래서 말인데 KPOP이 미국에서 부흥하면 미국에 살고있는 동양인들에게 긍정적인 롤 모델이 되어줄 수 있다는 얘기야. 동양인에 대한 전반적인 시각을 긍정적으로 바꿔버릴 수가 있어.

KPOP이 인기가 많아지는 것에 대해선 나도 만족해. 하지만 KPOP 가수들이 자신의 인기를 알아차리지 못했으면 좋겠어, 자신들이 인기가 있다고 생각하기 시작함으로서 행동을 거만하게- 이상하게 한다든지 그런 일이 없었으면 좋겠어.

I think it's better for Kpop to stay in Asia. It's sad but if they don't speak fluent English people would just laugh at them or won't even take them serious at all. Like what I just experienced showing Kpop MVs to my mates and they just laugh at them -___- they don't know what are they talking about and Engrish T__T

KPOP이 그냥 아시아에서만 머물러줬으면 좋겠어. 이런얘긴 슬프지만 만일 진출하는 가수들이 영어를 유창하게 구사하지 못하면 그저 웃음거리만 될 뿐이야. 진지한 관심을 끌어당길 수 없게 된다구. 실제로 난 내 친구 몇 명에게 kpop 뮤직 비디오를 몇편 보여줬는데 그 애들이 보고 비웃었어 -___-  kpop 가수들이 노래하는 가사를 알아들을 수 없었던 거야. 게다가 노래에 나오는 영어 가사란 정말 T__T

I agree about the English.. however, the mostly asians attending to their concerts in Europe isn't completely true, I went to the SMTown Paris and yes, there where asians, but we were mostly europeans and all over the world people, I travelled there from Spain only for the concert and so did lots of people.. actually where I was seated 70-80% of the people where not asians, so yeah it IS a big thing (being the first kpop concert held in Europe).. specially for fans lol .. just wanted to point that out~~

 

영어에 관한 너의 걱정은 나도 동감하는 바야. 그렇지만 프랑스 SM 콘서트에 동양인이 많았다는 건 네가 잘못알고 있는 거란다. 내가 그 콘서트에 다녀왔었어. 그래, 동양인들도 있었다. 하지만 그곳엔 대부분이 유럽인들이었고 그 외 세계 각국에서 날아온 팬들로 객석을 매우고 있었다. 오직 그 콘서트를 보기위해 스페인에서 온 팬도 있어, 그런 사람들이 정말 많았다. 내가 앉았던 좌석은 70%~80%가 비아시아계 팬들이었어. 그러니까, 이건 대단히 의미가 큰 이벤트라고 할 수 있다. 유럽에서 최초로 KPOP 콘서트가 열렸던 것이니까. 특히 팬들에게 그 의미는 커... 그 부분만큼은 콕 찝어 너에게 얘기해주고 싶네.

I'm from Belgium, me & my cousin traveled a total of 10 - 12 hours w/ my parents, and my parents (and for a small part me) spent almost ?700-1000 just so me & my cousin could go to SMTOWN ♥ best day of my life. I like all groups, but I'm an ELF & Shawol above all :D
I don't want kpop to become too mainstream actually, but it's nice to be w/ so many ppl that share your interest ^^ kpop fans must be like, the nicest fans ever.

나는 벨기에 사람인데, 우리 부모님이 케이팝을 좋아하는 나와 내 사촌을 위해서 SMTOWN 콘서트에 갈 수 있도록 돈을 마련해 주셨어. 그래서 우리는 거의 10시간-12시간 동안이나 비행기를 타고 가서 콘서트를 봤다 ♥ 내 인생에서 최고의 순간이었어. 모든 그룹을 두루두루 좋아하지만 나는 그 중에서도 슈퍼주니어와 샤이니를 가장 좋아한다.

사실 난 KPOP이 주류가 되는 것을 원치 않아. 케이팝을 좋아하는 뜻이 맞는 사람들이 더 많아지는 것도 나쁘지 않겠지만 말야. 케이팝팬들은 이 세상 그 어떤 팬덤보다도 가장 선량한 사람들이라고 봐.

The popularity of kpop in Europe has been on a steady rise ever since 2004~2005. I've been a listener of kpop already since 2005 and I can still remember the days when I was seen as a weirdo and told that "this Korean music of yours sounds ridiculous". Nowadays, the few people who said that, are fans of kpop.

Not to mention, I have seen that there are already thousands of kpop fans here in Finland, too (there have been many kpop related events, which also have been featured in the national news broadcasts). Our population is not huge, plus Finland is like the wasteland of the whole world, so that's why the growth of the kpop fanbase here has been a real surprise for me.

 

유럽에서 KPOP의 인기는 2004년이나 2005년부터 지속적으로 성장해왔어. 내가 바로 KPOP을 2005년부터 들어온 사람인데 그 당시 사람들이 나를 별종으로 취급하면서 "네가 듣는다는 KPOP은 정말 우스꽝스럽기 그지없구나"라며 조롱했었지. 요즘에는 그렇게 얘기하는 사람은 많이 줄었다.

핀란드에도 수천명의 KPOP팬들이 이미 형성되어 있다는 건 말할 것도 없어. 그동안 KPOP 관련 이벤트가 많이 열렸고 그런 우리들의 모습이 국제 언론 보도를 타고 방송된 적도 있지. 우리나라 인구는 그리 많지 않은 편이기 때문에 나라 규모 대비 저정도의 팬들이 있다는 걸 체감했을 때 많이 놀란 건 그 때문이다.

They didnt just sell the tickets to french fans. Fans from all over europe came to see them. Me included!!! I must have met about 200 english fans alone that day (10th). There were Polish fans, Italian fans, Brazilian fans etc rhe ist just goes on!!! The fact that we all had trouble communiating with each other until someone said "SHINee" or "TVXQ" was hilarious!!

The minute someone mentioned a name or a band we all spazzed (or didnt spaz) XD

 

에셈 프랑스 콘서트 티켓은 비단 프랑스팬들 뿐만 아니라 유럽 전체에 걸쳐 다양한 팬들에게 팔렸어. 나까지 포함해서. 10일날 콘서트를 보러 갔을 때 만난 영국인팬만해도 약 200명이었고, 폴란드, 이탈리아, 브라질 등 다양했어. 그래서 우리는 팬들끼리 만나도 서로 의사소통이 불가능했지. 그 때 누군가 "샤이니"라던지 "동방신기"라고 외치지 않았다면 말이야. 와 엄청 웃겼어!! 자기가 좋아하는 그룹의 이름을 외칠때마다 다 같이 단체로 바보가 되었었지.

I understood, really. Well, in Poland 14.000 people is quite a lot, maybe I just have other way of looking at it than you. And just look at vk bands who often can't attract 1.000 people for a concert - that's really non-mainstream.

우리나라 폴란드에서는 14.000명 관객도 상당히 많은 인파 동원이야. 그래서 다른 사람들과 보는 시각이 다를 수 있는데, KPOP처럼 본인들 콘서트에 1.000명이나 되는 관객을 끌어낼 수 있다는 건 정말 대단한 거야 - 그것도 대중적인 주류가 아닌 가수들이.

I feel the same way. Instead of feeling happy for them, I feel nervous~~. I just have a gut feeling that the Hallyu Wave should stay in ASIA. D:< It makes me feel sooo anxious~ like I'm thinking that their totally sugar coating it~

 

나도 너랑 같은 마음이야.. 그들이 진출한다는데 행복함을 느끼기 보다는, 불안감이 드네. 한류(Hallyu Wave)는 아시아에 그대로 머물러주는게 제일 좋을 듯... D: 괜히 날 걱정시킨단 말야. 마치 유리처럼 깨지기 쉬운 연약한 물건인것마냥.

i'm also a european listening to kpop :) but honestly I'd like to know how many French with no
connection to Asia at all have been interested in these concerts...

For sure they reached some people, but i'm not sure about the ones who don't know anything about Asia...

 

나 역시 KPOP을 듣는 유럽인이고 부정적으로 생각하고 싶지 않지만, 솔직히 말해서 그 콘서트에 아시아와 전혀 연고가 없는 프랑스인들이 과연 몇 명인지 알고싶구나.

케이팝은 일부에게 먹힐 수는 있겠지. 하지만 아시아에 대해서 전혀 아무것도 모르는 사람들에게까지 통하리라고는 글쎄...

Well, during SMTOWN in Paris people with Asian roots were only 2% of the whole audience, according to the French statistics, so it's not that bad with European fans :3

 

프랑스 통계 자료에 따르면 파리 SM콘서트에 모인 전체 관객들 중에서 동양계는 겨우 2%에 불과했어. 그러니까 유럽인 팬들에게 아주 통하지 않는 건 아니야.

i understand you but, japanese music is still more popular in france, sure kpop is getting popular but nothing to make a big fuss

 

무슨말인지 이해해. 하지만 일본 음악은 아직도 프랑스에서 인기가 많아. 물론 KPOP도 점점 인기를 얻어가고 있는 중이지만 그렇게 대단한 건 아니라고.

우린 KPOP을 사랑해.. 하지만 그들이 미국에 진출을 하기 시작하는 거라면, 그 땐 정말 얘기가 달라져... 그들을 너무나 사랑하지만, 유창한 영어 구사력을 갖추지 못한다면 받아들여지지 않을거야.... 그게 바로 그들이 아시아에서만 머물러야만 하는 이유야.

korean language isnt too strange like chinese for foreign ears.(normally u become a headache if u cant understand the language) + they have some talented unique voices + clothing&stagestyle

보통은 어떤 언어를 이해하지 못하면 머리가 아파지기 마련인데, 한국어는 외국인들의 귀에 중국어만큼 이상하게 들리지 않아.
이런점에 더해, 몇몇 실력좋고 독특한 보컬의 소유자들이 스타일리쉬한 의상과 무대 스타일을 갖춘다면..

그 콘서트는 일종의 실험이었던 거야. 그들이 파리에 갈 경우 관객이 얼마나 모일지에 대한 실험. 이젠 보다 큰 규모의 콘서트를 열 거라고 확신해.
