Korean government suppressed peaceful march by power

 

(촛불시위의) 평화로운 행진을 한국정부가 힘으로 억압했다.

37 people taken to the police and some wounded-

 

37명이 경찰에 연행되었고 일부 시위대는 부상을 입었다.

On May 24, about 40,000 koreans were marching with candles in their hand on Sejong street of Seoul.

 

5월 24일, 약 4만명의 한국인들은 손에 촛불을 들고 서울의 세종로를 행진하고 있었다.

They were women with their children, students, farmers, handicapped people, and other citizens who objected beef import!s from the US.

 

그들은 아이를 데리고 있는 여성, 학생, 농부, 장애인, 그리고 시민들이었으며

그들은 미국으로부터의 소고기 수입을 반대하였다.

Beef import!ation is currently the hottest issue in Korea because the goverment decided to import! beef that was 30 mos. old or more with materials.

 

한국 정부가 월령 30 이상의 쇠고기를 부산물들과 함께 수입을 결정한 이후

쇠고기 수입은 현재 한국의 가장 뜨거운 이슈다.

 

Older cows have a greater chance of carrying mad cow disease.

 

나이가 든 소일수록 광우병을 가지고 있을 가능성이 더욱 크다.

What aggravates people the most is that they could be used as human lab rats to test for the mad cow disease.

 

한국민들을 가장 화나게 하는 것은 바로 그들이 광우병에 대해서 '실험용 인간쥐'로 사용될 수 있다는 점이다.

 

( 한국인들에게 광우병 위험소를 마구 먹여서 광우병이 걸리게 한 후

이를 보고 광우병을 연구하는 일이 벌어지게 될 것이라는 말.

한국인들이 광우병 약을 만드는 '마루타'로 이용된다는 말.

30개월 이상 미국소를 대대적으로 수입하겠다는 나라는 한국밖에 없다.)

 

People have voiced their opinions in hopes that the government will negotiate again to lower the age of beef.

 

국민들은 정부가 소의 월령을 더 낮추는 재협상을 해줄 것을 희망을 가지고 건의하였다.

However, the government ignored.

 

그러나 정부는 이를 무시하였다.

So people gathered with candles to speak their minds.

 

이에 국민들은 그들의 생각을 이야기하기 위해 촛불을 들고 모여들었다.

After singing and sharing opinions, they marched along Sejong street.

 

노래하고 의견을 공유하다가, 그들은 세종로 일대에서 행진하였다.

More and mpre people joined and police started to blocked them to dismiss the gathering but failed.

 

점점더 많은 국민들이 참여하였고 경찰은 그들을 해산시키기 위해 봉쇄하려다 실패하였다.

Soon the police pushed and hit people with shields and began to take people away who seemed to take the lead.

 

곧이어 경찰은 국민들을 방패로 밀치고 때렸으며 주동자로 보이는 사람들을 연행하기 시작했다.

Then, water sprinklers arrived and shot water forcefully at them.

 

그리고 살수차가 도착하였고 국민들에게 강력하게 물을 쏘았다.

Many of them cried and shouted about the freedom of speech.

 

국민들중 많은 이들은 발언의 자유를 소리질러 외쳤다.

When the day broke, on-ly 1,000 people were left and were preparing another march that will be held on Sunday.

 

아침이 밝아올 때, 단지 천명의 국민이 남아있었고 그들은 일요일에 열릴 또다른 행진을 준비하고 있었다.

At this time, the most surprising thing is that most Koreans didn't know about that situation.

 

이때, 가장 놀라운 것은 대부분의 한국인들은 그러한 상황을 모르고 있었다는 것이다.

They can't hear from radio, watch on TV or read an article on newspapers about it

because the government blocked all major broadcasting system and most internet portal sites and newspapers.

 

그들은 이러한 상황에 대해서 라디오에서 듣지도, TV에서 보지도 신문에서 읽지도 못했다.

그것은 정부가 모든 주요 방송매체와 대부분의 신문과 인터넷 포털을 봉쇄했기 때문이었다.

 

Only few minor internet news have coverage about the scene.

 

몇개의 작은 인터넷 뉴스만이 그 현장을 알렸다.

 

People who knew the situation through cell phones are now asking friends or aquaintance abroad to let others know about this shouting 'the freedom of press'.

 

휴대전화를 통해 상황을 알게된 국민들은 친구들과 다른사람들에게 이러한 상황을 알렸다.

Now about 80% of Koreans have negative views of the president and reprimand his poor administrating ability and his dictatorial attitude toward people.

 

현재 한국인의 약 80%가 대통령 그 자신과 그의 빈약한 행정능력과 국민에 대한 독재적인 태도에 대하여 부정적인 견해를 가지고 있다.

 

Korea is a democratic republic. Everyone knows that except President Lee and his admininstration.

 

한국은 민주공화국이다. 모두가 알고 있는 이 사실을 이명박정부만 모르고 있다.
